How to change the Length of dimensioned lines?

I am editing dimension lines and am changing some of the required lengths. I can edit the texts to say a different length and even click the line and drag it further to extend but cant get an exact measurement. Is there a way to do this?

Hello @Anonymous ,

Its seems you are describing the Precision & Round Off settings for your dimension lines. Go to Dimension Style Manager & try creating "NEW.." then specify these settings.

LENGTHEN command, Total option, give it your exact measurement, pick on the Line near the end that you want to change [the other end will stay where it is].  Then pick on the Dimension and drag its appropriate definition-point grip to that new endpoint.

You should really get into the practice of drawing the item to the length that it should, and then dimension accordingly. I've seen it too many times that people draw a line 1975mm long and then (manually) dimension it to 2000mm.

@Anonymous  hi,

when you edit the text of the dimension you actually putting it in dimensions overrides, this means if you stretch the dimension line the text will stay and not reflect the actual distance. to remove the dimension override select the dimension and go to properties palette under text\text override remove the value there.

You should consider drawing to scale... it will prevent errors down the road.
