how to apply AutoCAD 2017 serial number? but still save 2016 version settings

I am a beginner and I had used AutoCAD 2016 for sometime and then it got expired.

I purchased new serial # ACAD 2017 TL:3Y SUB WW ELD SPZD

Trying to apply it to the old 2016 version does not go through of course.

Please help me to get running again, I would love to have all settings, layers etc. I had in 2016 saved and be available if possible.

Thank you.

When you install 2017, upon first starting up, you'll be presented with an option to use/migrate customizations from the previous version that was on your computer.  As for layers, they travel with drawings; just open up a dwg and they're there.

Jason, thank you for help.

one more question please.

Do I have to uninstall previous version? If yes, are the any specifics for un-install rather than just using Add/Remove programs ?

If all you own is 2017 (and that's the only one that works now), there's no need to keep 2016 installed.  If you're able to migrate your custom settings, then I'd say uninstall the older one.  Once that's done, a regular uninstall should work.  If you're feeling like killing it with fire, Google Clean Uninstall AutoCAD.
