How to a flatten this polyline to the XY plane?

I tried FLATTEN but it seems to have no effect.

I also would like one of the right angles of it to coincide with a right angle of the grid.

Not sure how this happened. I thought I was drawing on the XY Plane.

Try 3DALIGN.

The effect of FLATTEN is affected by the viewing direction, but for your desire to keep the right angle, that won't happen with FLATTEN whether in the posted viewing direction of the WCS Plan view.

I tried clicking on TOP in the view cube and then FLATTEN, but this doesn't do anything.

How do I set the viewing direction to accomplish this?

A polyline can be projected to a surface using projectgeometry.
