Is there still bugs that crash it? I just was playing around with it and noticed when I was rotating my dwg that it crashed on me so was just wondering if AutoCad 2017 was more stable?

Hi,

Have you installed all updates (Update 2018.1.1 is the current release).

I don't see more or less crashes than 2017. The only thing seems to be an issue with 2018 is that it is a bit more sensible with graphic card drivers.

Hi @Anonymous

All programs have bugs however AutoCAD has great support and are constantly patching so it worth keeping an eye out for new update and hotfixes.

As for the issue you are having maybe we can help?

Does it always crash when rotating the view? if you start a blank DWG does this crash when rotating?

What graphics card do you have?

Do you get an error message when it crashes or does AutoCAD just freeze?

Your video card probably choked: it might choke under R2017 as well, but only you can find out for sure, both work fine here.
What is your video card, what is your OS?

Video card is an Mobile Intel 4 series express GMA 4500M

My OS is Windows 7 home premium SP1

I tried to repeat what happened b4 but it didn't crash this time as I recall from the first time it crashed it said that they send an error report to autodesk.

Thanks for the help

Hi,

>> Video card is an Mobile Intel 4 series

That is not a graphic card for CAD

>> I tried to repeat what happened b4 but it didn't crash

Ok, how often did it crash?

Just so we're all discussing the same thing here: when you say "rotate" do you actually mean "orbit"?  3D performance in the detailed visual styles isn't going to do well with complex 3D models, especially with what looks to be integrated graphics hardware (i.e. built into the processor).  It can be done with a reasonably-detailed model using a dedicated video card of reasonable specs, so you don't need to splurge on a monster 5/6000-series Quadro.

But AutoCAD-based software isn't my first choice for real-time review.  First is design software appropriate to the task, such as Inventor/Fusion360, or Revit; these are designed from the ground-up for 3D operations.  You don't always have the option though, sometimes AutoCAD is the tool to use.  In that case the models need to be kept small, lean, and clean, using one of the wireframe visual styles.  Navisworks Simulate is used for real-time shaded inspection.

Only once so far.
How new of computer do you think I need for a stable experience with autocad 2018? I have read the requirements. Thinking of getting a new one with:
64 bit Intel i7 Kaby Lake quad core 4.2 Ghz or better 24 Gig RAM
1TB HD
Windows 7 pro SP1 or if not available Win 10
4GB or better GPU I know they say under 3D modeling need 1920 × 1080 or greater True Color video display adaper; 128 MB VRAM or greater
Is there a list of comparable video cards? What do u recommend?

That's not worth posting for or talk about buying a new laptop (or desktop): when you can repeat the crashes at will in ALL files with the same command, then it's a problem to discuss in these forums. Are you able to do so? Please test and find out.

What is the make/model of the laptop were this crash happened only once so far?

FWIW My personal 'upgraded' suggestions for 90% of users out there (you can always add more if you feel you can justify it):

- Desktop: i7-7700 clocked up to 4.2Ghz, 32GB (minimum), 512GB SSD (minimum), GTX1080 4GB or Quadro M2000 4GB (minimum)
- Laptop: i7-6820HQ, 16GB (minimum), 512GB SSD (minimum), Quadro M2000M 2GB or FirePro W5170M 2GB (minimum)

Toshiba Satellite L355-S7831

PSLD8U-00G001

I tested it and so far have not been able to crash it again using just a new drawing even an existing drawing.

Not sure if I use orbit I don't use a command I just go to the icon with the NSWE or wcs icon and hold left click and a pivot point appears and it rotates 2d and 3D.
Is there a way to limit the rotation to 2d what command or setting would I change to do it?

I am not aware that you can disable 3D totally in AutoCAD but what you can do if you end up in 3D is to use the command "SHADEMODE" and select "2D Wire Frame" from the option and this should put you back in 2D top down view.

Hope this helps and glad to hear your AutoCAD is not longer crashing.

Fantastic news: see if your crashing file just needs fixing as described here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/AutoCA...
