How do you assign a different STB to an MLeader's Leader?

Hello,

I am using a client's CAD standard that uses STB Plot Styles for plotting (whereas my company still uses CTB's), and I am having a problem with getting MLeaders to plot properly.  We are currently using AutoCAD & Civil 3D 2019

I want the MText portion of the MLeader to plot as a 0.35mm penweight while the Leader portion plots as a 0.25mm penweight.

I've tried to Ctrl+click to isolate the leader and assign either a different Plot Style or Lineweight, but the leader STILL plots as the same as the Mtext portion (i.e. leader plots too thick). This also goes for dimension styles.

I've seen other suggestions that entail assigning the MLeader to a layer that uses a 0.25mm Plot Style and then using a different font for the text, but this is NOT an option.

Any ideas?

Set the lineweight for the used plotstyle to "from object" [or select an existing plotstyle with that property for lineweight]

Set the lineweight of the MLeader to 0.35 and the Lineyweight for leaderlines to 0.25,

so the lineweights are not controled by the plotstyle.

But if it isn't alloed to add a plotstyle and there isn't a plotstye with "lineweight = from object",

    then it isn't possible, because:

MLeaderLines and the MText you can see is ONE Object.

One Object = one plotstyle.

What you suggest is how another one of our clients uses STBs.  They set the lineweights and linetypes in the layer manager, and the STB is used for just the level of black that is used for plotting ("100% Black", "90% Black", "80% Black", etc.,) and everything else is driven by the object and/or the layer settings.

I am not sute what you trying to say!?

You asked for "I want the MText portion of the MLeader to plot as a 0.35mm penweight while the Leader portion plots as a 0.25mm penweight. "

and i answered how do it. This way works with and without a stb.

And don't ignore the other part of my answer:

MLeaderLines and the MText you can see is ONE Object.

One Object = one plotstyle.

You can not use two plotstyle for only one object.

(an MText-MLeader is not like a block who contains multiple objects and one of them is an "MText")

What I am saying is that the method you are suggesting is the same method that a different client of ours uses STB files (which IS a better method, btw).

For that different client, I put the MLeaders on a Layer with the Lineweight set to 0.35mm and the plotstyle "100% Black".  I click on the MLeader, and in the Property Manager I can change the lineweight of the leader to 0.25mm, and everything plots fine.

However, with the first client in question, we are not allowed to modify and/or add to their STB, so we are stuck with their format because like you said, how the STB is defined affects the MLeader because it sees it as a single object. Therefore, BOTH the Text and Leader will plot as 0.35mm because the STB is "hard coded" to plot 0.35mm

thx

>"and everything plots fine."

perfect 🙂

>"However, with the first client in question, we are not allowed to modify and/or add to their STB,

>"so we are stuck"

Why?

Set the mleader ploststyle to NORMAL or to any other plotstyle which lineweight setting is "from object"

>"STB is "hard coded" to plot 0.35mm"

ahhh okay, but this can't be true for the plotstyle "Normal"

or i am missing something?

If the client want all in .35

plot it .35

CLIENTS ARE KINGS

🙂

Useful or not.

Take a look at the attached images

"Client A" is the STB I am having a problem with because the lineweights are "hardcoded". When I assign the Plotstyle to the layer (e.g. "Width 0.35mm") whatever is put on that layer plots 0.35mm, and components like MLeader leaders and Dimension lines CANNOT be overridden with either a by-entity Plot Style or Lineweight.

"Client B" is the STB that I PREFER because how the colour Black is the ONLY component in the STB that is "hard coded", and the layer settings do the rest.

"If the client want all in .35, plot it .35, CLIENTS ARE KINGS"

Ironically, THEY are the ones pointing out "The Leaders look too heavy".  And it's impossible to explain to them how STBs work, so I am trying to find a way to leave their STB file ALONE (because they will complain about that) while being able to change the penweight of the MLeader's leader and dimension lines.

You have/know all the facts and i show how it could works,

with the plotstyle NORMAL

and different lineweights in your mleader - as i wrote above.

Now it's time: What will you do?

Ask the client or print all to .35 without to ask.

Or use my hint to the plotstyle Normal.

LOL

Okay. So use object lineweights for mleader object and another lineweight for leaderlines.

And the object plotstyle = Normal.

See and plot my linked file.

In my PDF you can see the lw difference between 0.25 and 0.35 line/text.
