How can I speed up AutoCAD?

I want to optimize performance of AutoCAD 2017 in Windows.  At which settings should I look? Where do I start?

To speed up AutoCAD in Microsoft Windows you will need to consider three areas: Workstation, Operating System, AutoCAD. See AKN Article

Workstation

• Hardware should meet and in most cases exceed the minimum requirements for AuotCAD. (System requirements for AutoCAD)
• You should have at least 2 GB of RAM free when all programs are active.
• Verify that you are using an approved/certified driver for your graphics card. (Autodesk Certified Hardware).

Operating System

• Install the latest service packs and hotfixes for AutoCAD. (Autodesk Downloads)
• Set AutoCAD to run as Administrator. (How to set a program to run as administrator)
• Turn off all compatibility settings
• 
• Set UAC (User Account Control) to “Never Notify”. (How to turn off User Account Control in Windows)
• Use the Windows Basic desktop theme.
• Stop and disable the Windows Presentation Foundation Font Cache in Windows Services.
• Delete the contents of your user profile temp folder.
• Add the following exclusions to anti-virus application. Exclusion List

AutoCAD

• Turn off “Show Tool Tips” and “Show rollover Tool tips” and “Quick Properties” in Options>Display.

Is there really a solution to bring AutoCAD into the current decade?  No matter what type of computer one might have, AutoCAD still responds slow, locks up and crashes.  "Not responding" seems to be a normal occurrence.  I have an i9 processor and 2K graphics card, 64gb. ram and several tb of ssd.  None of which matters.  Is it my imagination or has Autodesk never updated Autocad since the late 90s?  Same bugs etc....  I only use 2d yet it functions as though there is an advanced 3d rendering occurring.....   If anyone has a solution to make it run as normal as other software, please let me know.  Very frustrating.

I don't have many of those issues and I am running i5 with 8 gb of ram but than again I'm not doing big complex projects either.

Your asking this in a thread from the last decade?!

Your problems are most likely local as there have been many updates, enhancements, new features, that all work (for the most part) and have made the program a much more stable and better user experience.

You've been saying the same thing in a number of threads but you don't ask for any help in making your experience better. Why not? You have the control. You can make the performance better. Do you expect it to be perfect for you out of the box?

Does this work for WIN11 or is this something that is built into the current (2022, 2023) version of Autocad and/or 2023 Civil3D? Thank you in advance.

He talked about general settings and workflow, less to do with your win version.

In 2016 he couldn't know how it is in 2022,2023,2024 or win11

You need to find YOUR issue, for this: Start a new topic, share your specs, win version, product version AND

a sample file incl. all external files (use ETRANSMIT).

Explain one performance problem and how we can reproduce it, step by step.
