Hide while plotting

I’ve developed an illustrative plan for a deck and patio with furniture.  I extruded the forms for tables and chairs, expecting they would block the lines of deck boards and concrete pattern using the HIDE command.  That works fine in model space and the underlying lines remain hidden switching back to paper space and even in a plot preview, but the plots come out with all lines showing.  The Visual Style is set to Hidden.  How can I keep those lines hidden?  Is there another way to place furniture over the deck to hide what’s below?

You can also try to RECOVER your drawing. Maybe something is hanging it up from working properly.

Close your drawing. While still inside AutoCAD Type RECOVER. Select the 3D drawing and let this run. It will say if you have errors.

You can also do an AUDIT while inside the drawing. Depending on drawing size these both could take a while. Sometimes they seem to be locked up but most cases it is not.

Double check your Properties on your VIEW PORTS to be sure they are HIDDEN.

When you type Plot the Shade Viewport Options should say Hidden.

Hope this helps. If so please select Accepted Solution.

Thanks for your suggestions.  Both RECOVER and AUDIT found no errors.  VISUALSTYLES is set to Hidden but when plotting, Shaded Viewport Options shows 'As Displayed' greyed-out and unchangeable (not an active field).

If I show PROPERTIES for the viewport I can change the Shade Plot status to Hidden, but the Visual Style field shows '2D Wireframe' greyed-out and unchangeable (not an active field).  If I plot in that condition the plot hides the lines as desired but the Shaded Viewport Options shows 'Varies' greyed-out and unchangeable, and the colors and lineweights are the screen colors rather than the black lines from my CTB settings.

Thanks for your response and suggestion.  Here is the drawing ready to plot.  VISUALSTYLES is set to Hidden, but the Shaded Viewport Options is locked at 'As Displayed'.  If I Hide in model space, the underlying lines remain hidden switching back to paper space and even in a plot preview, but the plots come out with all lines showing.

If I list Properties for the viewport and change Shade Plot to 'Hidden', the lines remain hidden in the plot but it plots in screen colors rather than the black of my CTB settings.

How can I keep those lines hidden and plot according to my normal-bj CTB?  Is there another way to place furniture over the deck to hide what’s below?

Got it.

Do a Right Click onto your View Port and Set Shaded Plot to Hidden.

I have attached both the PDF and DWG with Update for your review.

Sorry, Must of been still sleeping. I missed the 2nd Tab and the Fire Pit still showing hatch.

Re-looked. Your Fire Pit was 1" below grade. I moved it to grade so 1" sticks out of the ground and no hatch is seen when printing on either tab. I have once again copied the files for viewing.

Hope this helps! Thanks Mr. Pendean!

Thanks for catching the firepit mistake.  I have tried the above solution - changing Shade Plot to 'Hidden' - and the underlying lines remain hidden in the plot but it plots in screen colors rather than the black of my CTB settings. In the Plot Dialogue Box the correct normal-bj CTB file shows in the Plot Style Table, but its color settings are ignored.

I attempted to attach the CTB file for you to try, but the Forum dialog box says it is not a supported file.  Is there a setting in the Plot Dialogue box I am missing?

Try using Legacy Hidden instead of hidden for shade plot

Agree with USER181... Legacy Hidden worked for me.

I have attached only Tab 1. But all B&W

Nice Deck and Patio by the way!

Enjoy!!

Brilliant!  That worked as hoped.  I've not heard of the Legacy settings, but many thanks to both user181 and jrreid.
