Help with sharing palettes

Morning, so i could do with some advice on the next steps i need to take. so i've been busy creating our company pallette to roll out to about 20 users in the office , ive got so far as creating all my dynamic blocks , lines , hatches etc to a blank palette on my local c: drive location and built my palette with its 12 tabs of items on it . ive got to a point where im happy with it and tested everything and it all works.

now i would like to move this to a network drive so that i can get everyone else using it.

my question is what exactly do i do next ...do i now right click on palette , customise palette , then right click on each tab name and export that ''tab name.xtp'' file to my local folder where i created them ..do that to all the tabs , then copy that folder with all the .xtp , actpcatalog file and images folder that it created to a place on our network so that others can link to that location ?

or do i have to move everything to the network first and then create the .xtp files ?

do i need to include the .dwgs with all the items from each tab into the folder that goes on the network or just the items listed above ?

thanks for your help

no unfortuantely that doesnt help .. ive followed a variety of online vdeos and autocad university videos , im just unsure if im doing the last bit correct.

actually looking into it more i dont even have to export the palettes to make .xtp files , i can just move the .atc and catalog file ..i guess im just looking for some positive affirmation that what im about to do isnt going to break all the work ive just done and i end up starting over again.

Why not backup all of your customizations often and frequently? plus backup your AutoCAD setup plus ALL of your PC too: your IT person (don't have one? get one) is there to aid you with these "I'm worried about losing everything" queries my friend.

sounds alittle patronizing to me.

and yes , everything is backed up and i do have an IT guy. im just concerned that the weeks ive put into all this work will now roll over into a working palette that 20 other people can use. im looking for some guidance and advice on how to ensure this process works properly, first time.

so if you havent built a palette from scratch and rolled it out onto a network for others to use then your comments are of no help to me.

  1. Create a specific location on the Network for the Autodesk > Toolpalettes.
  2. Yes, export your "Palettes" (*.xtp) and "Palette Groups" (*.xpg) to this network location.
  3. Yes, you can also copy the AcTpCatalog.atc, DWGS, and other files to this network too.

Note:

  • If the server name is ever changed, you will need to updated the <Source File> (Network Path) within each (*xtp) file.

  • Make sure to add this network file path in the OPTIONS.

  • Also consider creating a PROFILE folder where you can EXPORT these settings (*.arg) and others can IMPORT.
