I've used the hatch tool many times, however when I tried to use it today it would not fill. Every time I click on an enclosed area it simply highlights the border rather than filling the area. Even after closing the hatch it still does not show, any ideas?
check your hatch scale? or if you want to hatch solid just type solid in the command prompt and pick the corner points. thanks
AutoCAD does only a quick test for highlighting a border. (for performance reasons)
If you try to apply the hatch, it does a more precise test.
If there is a tiny gap in the border, the solid hatch can't be applied.
These tiny gaps can even be too small to see or to measure.
Patterned hatches only have this problem, if a line of their pattern hits this gap. (Solids always hit gaps, if there is one)
The best way to avoid gaps is to apply hatches to closed polylines. - Works best, but it's not always the method you want to use.
Another way would be to close those gaps with JOIN or EXTEND.
Try to avoid lines for the border, that are longer than needed - intersection points can result in a failure. Either to fail completely, or to leak into the next area.
A tip: When you make an area with a polyline just before you close the area type "c" than Autocad automaticlly close the area for you.
Than you dont't have this problem anymore.
Can you post the file (or just the portion with the objects you are trying to hatch) along with a description of where you are trying to apply the hatch? Use leaders in the dwg to point to the problem areas if that is easier than describing it.
