Hatch fills entire screen and seems to slow program

Often after we have loaded xrefs created externally, I'm guessing they were made in Civil 3d, the file they are x-refed into runs slowly and opens with a hatch or line filling the entire screen. It goes away if I zoom out enough to "turn off high quality geometry". I've also tried cleaning the xref files to no avail.

Let me know if anyone has found a solution.

Also see screenshot for how it looks every time I open certain files...

@malloryR6EZ6 You are running an OEM version of AutoCAD, you'll need to ask that OEM vendor for guidance with their software https://www.landfx.com/support.html as you might be missing an update or need to turn off GFXDX12 variable (or turn off hardware acceleration?)

Your C3D files creator might have to make changes too?

Figured that might be the culprit, I'll head over there...
