Hardcopy Log

I am using ACAD 2017.  My problem is that blank hardcopy logs are being made in various folders on our server.  I have never had these prior to updating to 2017.  I have the plot log turned off in both the plot and publish options and the plot stamp advanced settings but this doesn't affect the hardcopy log.  What am I missing?

I have had this same issue for some time. As additional information, I have noticed on my system that they appear if I open AutoCAD from a file folder window. That is to say: AutoCAD is not an open program, I double click on an existing .dwg file, and the hardcopy.log appears in that folder. I have no idea why this occurs, as it has zero to do with printing.

I'm running AutoCAD 2019, installed as part of the Building Design Suite. We save all files to 2013 format (client related).

Exact same issue with AutoCAD LT 2020...

This issue is still happening for us, and it doesn't matter if AutoCAD is
opened from the desktop icon or by selecting a file from an explorer folder
(on or off network).

This still happens here, too.  Any time AutoCAD LT 2019 has an error, it creates a hardcopy.log file in the project folder of the file that was being opened.  Because our networked items aren't set up quite right, I get this error every time I start AutoCAD LT:  "AutoCAD LT Warning: The following shortcuts in the search were invalid and ignored: ...\Add-A-Plot Style Table Wizard.lnk"

Really want it to stop logging this, please.

Hi,

>> invalid and ignored: ...\Add-A-Plot Style Table Wizard.lnk"

That means you have played with the folders or with the content of the plot style tables.

When you use a folder for plot-styles that you already used for an older AutoCAD version then the file "Add-A-Plot style Table Wizard" is linked to a program file of a different AutoCAD version, not the one for the currect AutoCAD version.

Change that file to the one you have got with your current AutoCAD (which sits in the original folder for plot-styles).

Hello!

I have found a solution for this issue - so I am posting for future people searching for answers.

I resolved my hardcopy log issue by rechecking all of the support paths in the "Options" -> "Files" tab.

Some of mine were no longer there or moved.

I hope this helps! Thanks!

jk1173 nailed it for me. When I double click a dwg file in File Explorer to open AutoCAD, the hardcopy.log file is created. If I just open AutoCAD, then open the drawing, there's no log file. I have other errors when I try to open drawings from within AutoCAD, so I'll have to learn to live with the log files, but at least now I know why they're there!

Late update - I think I finally deduced the problem was caused by our old office printer and possibly different versions of the printer driver installed on various computers.  We have since gotten a new printer, and "for the most part", the issue has essentially stopped, except for the rare occurrence with less used computers.  Without information, these logs are useless and more of a pain than a help.  I still have to search our server to delete the logs saved in random folders, but a lot less frequently now.

Anyone having this issue, I'd suggest to make sure your printer driver is current, and everyone is using the same driver version.
