No, CURBORBADGE does not make it go away.

User does not know what he did to trigger it.

Changing visual styles to something other than 2D Wireframe _does_ make it go away, but we kind of want to stay in 2D Wireframe.... 😉

Hello, 

Currently, I am not clear as to the cause of the issue. But there are two possbile suggestions for you to fix it:

1: Turn on hardware acceleration.
2: Reset AutoCAD to default settings. You can reference the link below:

could it not be one of the icons i've noticed in autocad2016 that appears near the cursor and is relative to the command that is active?

or not active and stuck? hah like when I want to delete, a small red x appears.  Does anyone with autodesk recognize the half circle as one of the know icons?

Had this happen to a user earlier this week too. Found the same link that @rkmcswain posted. I think he closed and reopened the drawing to get rid of the odd behavior as well and it hasn't returned. He thinks it might have been some weird (not on purpose) keyboard combination that triggered it.

If it is, it's not responding to the CURSORBADGE sysvar which can be set to hide them. 

Moreover, it appears all the time, with no command active, while in the 2D Wireframe visual style.

Nope. It stays by the cursor no matter what command is running, if any.

when geometry is copied and selected to be moved, if you hold down shift the icon appears. This is an indicator that the geometry can only be moved orthogonal to its present location. if the icon is frustrating you: select some geometry, copy it and when you move it hold down the shift key. Move the geometry and then delete it and the "Bug" should go away.

Just had this happen to me today...

What triggered it:

I noticed the UCS icon was showing the tricolor with the z-axis.

So I used the UCS command to set it to 'World' and then the PLAN command to set 'Current'

Screen refreshed and the half filled circle Cursor Badge appeared.

Like rkmcswain,

CURSORBADGE settings didn't change it, nor did reopening or restarting the computer.

The Shift-Copy solution was the only thing that did work.

Hello, I'm a french user.I will try explain in english.

That happen when:

_ORTHO mode OFF

_clic on USC icon

2 points and a square bleu appears

_clic on a circle (x plan for me)

_[SHIFT]+move mouse.

Symbol appears.

Do same to be back to nominal position and symbol is off.

I don't know what is mean...

sEugenh - Thanks so much! I had never seen that icon ever and I have used AutoCAD since 1990.

That really looks and acts like a bug in AutoCAD (and it shows up in AutoCAD LT). The fix appears as simple as the bug is to activate. Odd how doing the same very specific actions again seem to get rid of it.

Oh, and CURSORBADGES, I didn't even know they were a thing until researching this fix.

Who thought that setting it to "1" would turn it off?
