Group objects in same layer

I have a drawing file from a consultant. It's a site plan with over 800 trees all have text. They are on the same layer and we want to change all the text to a different layer. Is there a way I can select only text on a certain layer so I can just change them all at once instead of trying to individually pick them? Thanks in advance
