Grid count to units

Hello,

I'm new to AutoCAD and I'm used to working in Rhino. I'm trying to set the grid so that one square is equal to 1mm in order to snap to the grid and produce small detailed drawings. When I zoom in the smallest grid is always 10 units and I want it to be 1 unit. Please send help

Both the Grid and Snap can be set through the _+DSETTINGS 0 dialog.

I recommend avoiding the "Adaptive Grid" setting.  This affects the grid as you zoom in/out.

You should consider using or creating a template file that employs all of the typical settings and elements that you will use.  You will start a new drawing and save it as a .dwt template file, or open an existing template file and make necessary alterations.

Some items to include in your template:

  • Run through DWGUNITS command and set as desired.
  • Setup items in UNITS dialog box.
  • Set your drawing space LIMITS (lower-left corner & upper-right corner)
  • Set your Grid & Snap preferences in the dialog box mentioned by @vladimir_michl.
  • Setup any OSNAP preferences.
  • Add layers and linetypes as needed.

Your template file can evolve as you learn and determine additional needs.

Hope this helps,

Blaine

set units to millimeter, command:GRID - set grid aspect/spacing to 1 ,  activate grid snap for precision (SNAPMODE - F9), set dimension to millimeter ( so you can check your work if its really in mm)
