Greenhorn needs HELP with small matter for you all

Ok so I am a total novice (and that is being generous) compared to what I see on here. Keep that in mind when answering please, if  you should choose to answer. I am trying to freeze objects on my various layouts. I turned on all layers in model space, and then went to layouts and created 5 layouts. I then, on the first layout selected the freeze selected objects and selected them and it worked fine. I then went to the next layer where my drawing with all the layers turned on appeared, but when I now try to freeze selected objects nothing happens when I click on the objects. Same problem with all the following layouts.

Any ideas?

Hi,

i guess your mistake is:

While you on a Layout tab, in Layerproperties manager, you can see the column "VP Freeze".

But this is for the paperspace, objects placed in this layout.

See your status bar -> PAPER

(for usual all layers should be VP FREEZE - OFF there)

If you like to "VP FREEZE" a layer for modelspace objects, you have to go INSIDE a viewport

(doubleclick inside a viewport or switch from PAPER to MODEL in statusbar, or use commands MSPACE and PSPACE)

VP FREEZE is se viewport setting, for each viewport (or paperspace separate)

When you are in the layout make sure the viewport is active by entering MS and enter at the command line or just double click in the viewport to activate it. Then try freezing layers.

so paperspace is for layouts? modelspace is for model? why does model space enable me to freeze layers in the layouts and paperspace does not?

@Anonymous That's how it works, always has, still does, no point in fighting it, learn to work within it instead: MODEL controls everything, viewports in layouts are only local.
