Graphic error in big project

Has anybody seen ghost lines like this? I don't have sketchy lines or transparency on.

Also, elements don't highlight when I hover over them. Makes it very hard to work..

Did you try to modify visual style?

I hope this will help you > visualize tab>select other visual styles

I don't have any modified visual styles.

Here's why this was happening.

 

It's related to the undesired effect caused by zooming away from the model such that a line that would normally be obscured by another element becomes visible. In this case, I noticed that the target and eye elevation were set to some preposterous number. Upon further investigation, there was an errant DWG in the model that was screwing with the extents. So even though the view appeared to be zoomed in to satisfaction, it wasn't truly calculating the view correctly. Once I removed the errant DWG, I was able to fix the problem.
