Glitching cursor in Autocad 2016 empty template (1-6fps)

G'day! I'm a new student of AutoCAD, and have only just installed 2016 (multiple times...).

I have a new pc that's more than capable of AutoCAD, but my problem is that when I open a new template, the cursor glitches as if there is a billion things going on.

Afterburner tells me that the frame rates drop to around 1-6fps when the cursor is over the work space, but the cursor is fine in all the menu's.

I have re-installed several times, my drivers are up to date, and my pc is more than capable.

Any help diagnosing this so I can get to study would be greatly appreciated!

Perhaps try an older version if your video card drivers, one from 2015 or 2016, as the software was released in March of 15.
