Get Zoom/Pan Out of Undo Stack

Yes, I know how many times someone has started this thread. No that's not too many until Autodesk listens to this frequent and longstanding request.

Get Zoom/Pan out of the Undo stack. At least as an option. For heaven's sake.

AutoCAD needs to be in IdeaStation.

Hi,

Pan and zoom actions can be combined, however, to make for less undo events. You can elect this setting in OPTIONS > User Preferences >> Combine zoom and pan commands.

Thanks, that's interesting. The thing for me though, isn't how many times I have to hit undo. That doesn't bother me. If that were the only issue (and maybe Audodesk thinks it is), I can see why this wouldn't have been addressed.

The reason I care about this is much more concrete. In case any Autodesk team members open this thread:

1.) I want to be able to clearly see before/after on changes I'm unsure about. Differing zoom/pan makes that much more challenging. For me this literally defeats the point of Undo/Redo.

2.) I'd like to be able to pan/zoom on a "before" without deleting the "after" ("Redo cache")

3.) Worst, #2 can happen accidentally so easily that I have to take my hand off the mouse before I Undo anything. That frankly is not a reasonable UX issue for professional productivity software at this level.

Did you know that the undo and redo buttons in the QAT have drop down menus so that you can undo/redo multiple commands at once?

There are other ways to compare drawing options than undo/redo.

This is a user forum and not a feature request one. I'm sure someone will come along and point you in the right direction for feature requests.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Personally, I WANT undo to address zooms and pans, if it didn't you could be unknowingly undoing steps not visible on screen.  That is a level of headache in a 400 user office I really have no desire to address.

I'm going to have to agree with post #5 above, your wishlist will be more problematic than helpful for most users, probably even you.

See post #4, change your workflow to work with the program instead of fighting it.

Hi @JLeeSaxon,

I have seen this request before but as others note, this might actually cause greater pains than fixes.

I would like to thank  you for your suggestion how we can improve the product however.

You are also welcome to contact the product team directly through the Product Feedback page. The links below go into more detail about the best ways to make suggestions.

Another great option is to participate in the AutoCAD Customer Council. This is an opportunity for our customers to partner with the AutoCAD development team to improve future releases of AutoCAD by giving continuous feedback on ideas, designs, and early builds.

In order to get involved email autocad.beta@autodesk.com or autocad.lt.council@autodesk.com
