GeoTIFF Not Recognized by AutoCAD

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am a fairly new user to AutoCAD. My job requires me to import several satellite images in a day into different drawings. I am experiencing ongoing intermittent issues with the Raster tool not recognizing the GeoTIFF. I download images from a government site, and they seem to download fine and have the correct file size, I can open them with Adobe Photoshop, Paint, Microsoft Office, etc. When I try to import them using Raster in to my drawing, there is no thumbnail shown and the file size is 1 pixel and 0 bytes. What can I do to fix this?

Hi,

welcome @Anonymous.autodesk.com!

You do have different commands to insert an image with Map3D:

  • _IMAGEATTACH
  • _MAPIINSERT
  • _MAPCONNECT

Which one of them fails, and which one works well?

If you can upload the image (as zip with the world file included), then please do so. That gives us the option to play with your file on our systems.

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I don't have Photoshop on my computer to check this but I think it has to do with pixel aspect ratio which can be turned on or off in Photoshop. Try this and let me know if it fixes the problem.  I think (if memory serves correct) that this feature is found under the VIEW menu in Photoshop.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

Hi Alfred,

You mentioned to upload the image as zip with the world file attached, do you mean the image and the dwg or something else?

It doesn't work for any of the commands.

Thank you!

Hi John,

We have played with the photoshop and the aspect ratio, but then the image imports to coordinate 0,0 and not where I need it.

Thanks!

Hi,

>> image as zip with the world file attached, do you mean the image and the dwg or something else

Parallel to the TIFF file you normally have a TWF file for the georeferenced positioning. So I would need the TIF + the TWF.

>> We have played with the photoshop and the aspect ratio

That destroys the possibility to georeference the file, because then the georef-information (which Photoshop ignores) does not match to the number of pixels in X and Y direction.

Alfred, as far as I know, when we get the download it is already attached to the TIFF file. We don't get two files, only one.

Even if your TIFF-file has it's georef info within it's header, it makes the georef-information defect if you modify the file with any painting software.

I had someone prepare the image for you as I couldn't compress it.

HI @Anonymous,

Did you attach a file to a post? I don't see one in the thread.  I would like to examine the file to see what might be happening to prevent it from working for you.
