GEOMAP image shifted on all but one computer

Hi folks,

I'll try to get permission to post data if I can but for now, here is the issue:

My clients had a project that hit a milestone a few months ago. It's been sitting since then but now they are beginning to open the files and work on it again.

The base file has a geo marker and a map that for some reason is now shifted about 3000' to the left when the file is opened on any computer except one, on which the file looks correct (the linework and the map align).

Same version of AutoCAD (2019 - although I'm testing 2023 for an install and I get the same issue).

Is there some setting or system variable that could be different on one computer that is causing it to display properly on that machine?

Thanks as always for any insight.

Hi Dave,

Vanilla AutoCAD 2019. Although Civil3D does exist in the office so it's possible the file was opened in Civil3D.

There's no 'setting' or 'system variable' that will correct your drawing. The issue is the method used to establish the coordinate system when the drawing was first started. Unfortunately the coordinate system assigned to modelspace is a process that's slightly more sophisticated than many believe it to be, and because of that, the procedure is misunderstood. As you already know, noticing a geospatial error may go unnoticed until an opportunity to compare it to a good drawing arises.

If you can't post the drawing, can you at least provide coordinates of two points:

  1. Coordinates of a point where your site is located.
  2. Coordinates of a point where your incorrect linework lands.

A detailed workflow can be given for your benefit. For the coordinates, you can supply State Plane & Zone or UTM/zone or Lat/Long. If you are unable to get accurate coordinates, would it be possible to give the location in terms of the nearest City/State?

Hi folks,

Here is some more info that may help... I hope.

I took a good long look at the two machines, the one that opens the file properly (the map and line work align) and the one that opens the file improperly (the map and line work are misaligned).

On the machine that 'works' "Civil3D 2019 Object Enabler" was installed

On the machine that does not 'work' it was "Civil3D 2019.3 Object Enabler"

As this was the only difference I could see I uninstalled "Civil3D 2019.3 Object Enabler" and installed the older version.  No luck. Misaligned.

I then uninstalled the Civil3D 2019 Object Enabler altogether. Bingo. the Map and Line work aligned!!!

I repeated this a few times to test.  Any version of C3D OE installed - misaligned, uninstalled, looks great.

As we are testing AutoCAD 2023 for deployment, I decided to test that as well.  Same thing.  Civil3D 2023 Object Enabler installed - misaligned, uninstall C3D 2023 Object Enabler... looks great!

Any ideas?
