I cannot figure out how to geolocate my drawing.  I looked it up on the autodesk guide but when I go to the insert tab there is no location choice.  Is there something I’m missing?

Hi,

>> when I go to the insert tab there is no location choice

Can you please show a screenshot from the dialog you are referring to?

Also please let us know the version of AutoCAD you are working with.

Hi,

The forum for AutoCAD for Mac is >>>there<<<, it could act different to the Windows version.

Can you type in the command _GEOGRAPHICLOCATION .. what happens on the Mac AutoCAD then?

The MAC version does not have what you want: switch to the Windows version if this is a business need.

I cannot figure out how to geolocate my drawing.

If you don't have the the plain AutoCAD GeoLocation command you are actually much better off without that voodoo (borrowed term).  True mapping simply DOES NOT work that way, you cannot pick a point in a drawing, throw in a lat/long and expect to be georeferenced.  While AutoCAD may force the Bing images to follow along you will NEVER be able to merge additional data that is on the proper coordinates nor will you ever be able to export your content to a format like Google Earth.  So avoid the plain AutoCAD GeoLocation command like the plague.

In true mapping everything added to the drawing comes in at TRUE coordinates for  the assigned system (like state plane or UTM, etc).  You DON"T GET TO CHOOSE your coordinates, they are what they are based on the system.  At this point your best choice is to enlist the help of a professional surveyor or geodesist.

In the version you’re running, plain vanilla Cad, and on a Mac, you may insert images but they won’t be geolocated.

Imagine modelspace is the surface of the earth and you want to superimpose an aerial image on top of earth’s surface so it ‘matches’ the ground under it. To do this, you’ll need either Map 3D or Civil 3D and a computer running Windows.

In your case, your inserted image could end up in the desert, in Antartica or in the ocean, anywhere. Unlike Map and Civil, your program and version of Cad cannot simulate earth’s surface.
