DxfReopen.PNGDxfasleft.PNG

Laser engraving station accepts files dxf R12 only in Layer 0, so the reason for the format.

Don't know if this is a function of dxf R12, does not reference a font file on import ans then is substituted?

Digging around for methods to explode the font, more than a simple Explode command, more research there I need to do.

Also conversions from .bmp dropped into .dxf not appearing, probably also not supported in dxf R12 ?

Maybe a non TT font, I see that BOLD.SHX does re-appear when re-opened, so perhaps answered my own question

DXF R12 does not recognize TT Fonts, only SHX, perhaps

Hi @Anonymous,

I do not believe that the font will be retained in the DXF  but the characters should come in correctly.

Can you tell me what you mean the converted from BMP is referring to? Can you attach some sample files that I can try too?

The characters do come in correctly, but the laser plotter uses line width,
so a bold font works better for signs. We probably have other means to
increase the beam size (i.e. Line Width) but as is often the case, we only
read the instructions when all else fails 🙂

Also, the .bmp embedded in the file disappears, I suspect embedded images are not supported in dxf R12. Unless you had a method to convert them to vector before saving in R12 dxf.
I did find the R12 dxf does support different font .shx  files, providing the receiving machine has the font file available, I'm guessing

You are correct, the R12 format does not support TrueType fonts nor does it support raster images.
