Font not recognized in AutoCAD 2018 DWG to PDF

Hi guys

I'm not sure if this is the same issue or not. We are having a problem with the DWG to PDF 'printer' not recognising our true-type font in 2018.1.1

It worked fine in the original 2018 installation.

The font we are using is called Dotum, which I believe is not a default Windows font anymore, but we can still install it locally & use it.

I've read a workaround is to convert text to geometry, but a fix to revert back to how it worked before would be good.I've read a workaround is to convert text to geometry, but a fix to revert back to how it worked before would be good.

Let me know if it's an issue not related to this & I'll start a new topic.

Cheers

Hi @adrian.calabria,

Yes converting all the text to geometry is one option to retain its use.  I understand how you would prefer to keep it intact.  Can you share a copy of this font so I can test on my side?

Did you try a 3rd party PDF driver?
Is this a copyright font, one that you purchased? That may be the actual reason.

John, attached are the 2 fonts we have installed. We started using it in Windows 7, but then it was excluded from Windows 10.

pendean, as mentioned above, it was a Windows font in 7, but removed in 10. And it works with 3rd party printers like CutePDF.

Also, on further troubleshooting, I found that with the DWG to PDF, if I only untick the 'capture fonts' box & leave the 'convert to geometry' unticked, it works AND the pdf file size is a lot smaller.

Ultimately, because Windows don't support this font anymore & therefore why should I ask Autodesk to do it, that may be the answer. Because although as humans we all want things to never change & work the same way forever, changing a setting and saving people some time for more important things is the way forward.

TTC fonts? Those are from a MAC, right? There are free converters to change them to TTF fonts if you want to hang on to them.

"TrueType Collection. TrueType Collection (TTC) is an extension of TrueType format that allows combining multiple fonts into a single file, creating substantial space savings for a collection of fonts with many glyphs in common.

Hi @adrian.calabria,

@pendean is correct that the TTC files might be the problem.  I used this site to convert them to TTF for you. I hope they behave better.
