Folders Have Read Only Attribute

Windows 7/10 OS denotes every folder on the system as Read Only.  What this does for AutoCAD is create an error that indicates can't autosave to a read only folder.  After hitting ok, I noticed the files were still saving.   I had (3) MS techs go thru the system by VPN, tried to fix it, reloaded Win OS twice and they finally said, this is the way MS is, the vendors will need to fix their software.  MS indicates even though the folder itself has a read only attribute, the files themselves do not and Windows Explorer allows the files to be read-write.  This is not limited to AutoCAD, my third party plug-in software, SprinkCAD, is having a worse problem.  That program won't read-write a specific file, deletes the file, making the software unusable.

I'm not sure who these 3 "MS techs" were, but there are tens of thousands of installations of AutoCAD on Windows out there, and I'd guess very few, if any others, have the problem you are reporting. It's not a problem with AutoCAD. So what is stopping you from clearing the R/O flag from the folder in question?

Windows OS is stopping everyone. Please try it. Create a new folder on
your desktop, look at properties, clear read only tag, apply, ok, then look
at properties again. Still there.

Hi,

>> Windows OS is stopping everyone. Please try it. Create a

>> new folder on your desktop, look at properties, clear read only tag

You see that graphic after your described workflow:

Does that mean that the folder is write-protected? No, it does not. If this folder would be write-protected it would look like that:

So the message you get:

>> AutoCAD is create an error that indicates can't autosave

>> to a read only folder

Does not mean it depends on the general "Windows creates all folders write-protected"!

You might find >>>this AKN article<<< to get your situation solved.

I found the problem on my PC.  I'm not sure the solution will help everyone, but it should help some.  After completely removing Win 10 OS, reformatted drive using WIN 7 Ultimate OS Disk, everything was working find UNTIL I reinstalled AVG software.  AVG pop-up finally came up indicating that AutoCAD and SprinkCAD were trying to change a write protected folder and stopped the process, therefore, stopping me from working.  Once I went into AVG settings/exceptions and added all the AutoDesk, SprinkCAD and DWG Files folders to the exceptions, the programs had read-write access again.  It may have also helped that I reinstalled all new programs as Administrator.

Sorry for blaming WIN OS, AutoDesk and SprinkCAD for these issues.  Hope this helps others!
