NX has a command: Ctrl+F that get the body closer for viewing.

Catia has also a command "Fit" for closer image....

I'm not quite sure I get what you're asking, but does ZOOM and the Extents option do it?  Or to have an object or selection of objects fill the view area [rather than everything], ZOOM and the OBject option [which will accept multiple objects]?
