Finding Block Sizes

Is it possible to generate a list of blocks in a drawing that would also contain the size?

I have been given a large 2D file; 48 meg; and it clearly could be a lot smaller.

It contains many blocks that appear to have been flattened from 3D with multiple lines still in each item.

So I would really like to have the chance to attack the largest blocks first but that would involve knowing the size of each block.

Is this possible?

Thanks for looking.

Hi @Anonymous,

I am not aware of any built in function inside of AutoCAD that can do this action.  I suggest looking in the Autodesk App Store to see if any of the multitude of Block add-ins can do this for you.

Another possibility is to move this thread to the customization forum. Please let me know if you would like me to do that for you.

There could be a few things that cause bloated file sizes.

First I would check for phantom linetypes and text styles.

Just enter LTYPE at the command line and see if you have a bunch of linetypes that should not be there.

You can also run the OVERKILL command to get rid of lines that are on top of each other.

Use WBLOCK as a way to purge the file.

Hi @Anonymous,

I am following up to see if you have made any progress on this issue?

Can you share your file with me via a cloud-based location or if I give you a place to upload to me?  I am happy to take a look at this for you.
