Files that open in 2014 not 2016

We have one job in this office where several users report some of the files will only open using Autocad 2014, not 2015 or 2016.

It would appear to have something to do with the complexity and or size of the files because splitting up the information on for example the sections onto several seperate drawing files helped.

I am puzzled because we are a commercial office dealing in relatively complex and large buildings with newish appropriately specced, up to date equipment and the job we are having a problem with is by no means our largest project. These drawings are drawn with quite a lot of solid hatches, some inserted images, transparency and other rubbish but otherwise nothing terrible, nor even a lot of X-Refs, nor are the files particularly big.

The one idea I have is that it is something to do with spurious 3D information that has crept into ostensibly 2D drawings and which various attempts, flatten, resetting 'z' coordinates etc., don't seem to be able to sort out.

Details on request.

Any fixes, suggestions, comments gratefully received...

When you say they won't open in 2015 or 2016, what exactly does that mean?
Does the application crash when you try to open one of these files?
Does it start to open the file, but then just sit there like it's locked up?
Does it give you an error message?

Can you attach a file here or upload to your A360 Drive that exhibits this behavior.

Can you delete bits of the geometry in an experiment and suddenly everything works as expected?

Hi, It gets as far as showing a view then freezes / crashes leaving a windows box 'AutoCAD application has stopped working' / close program.

Hi @geoffmarkham3193,

Thank you for posting your question here in the community.

Have you check for file corruption in the affected drawings? You can use the methods in this article to do so.

If you post one or two of the affected files here, I'll be happy to take a look.
