Field linked to cell with text displays xxxx - numbers work fine

Hi 

I am trying to link a field to a cell in a table in my drawing. It works fine for numbers, but for text it just displays xxxx. 

I am using Field > Formula > Cell - it doesn't matter what format I choose. Can anyone help me here? I have searched the net already for a solution. Cheers.

can you please show us the dwg-file + let us know which version and service pack of AutoCAD you are using?
