FBX Models Making AutoCAD Very Slow

Hi

I am exporting pipe racks from Navisworks and importing them into AutoCAD 2018 so that I can do some layout drawings. I then copy base into AutoCAD 2024 and convtosurface so that I can use the layout base drawings for them. There is quite a lot of detail on the racks but I don't think it should be as slow as it is?

When I click a view using base then to do a projected view I have to wait maybe a minute or more. The same happens me when I do a section view and then try put a depth on it I could be waiting up to 5 minutes for it to load. Then sometimes when I'm putting dimensions on the drawing sheets, when I click out of the command it freezes then the loading bar down the bottom starts to go up slowly. The same happens when putting in leaders.

I have a good set up so that isn't the issue I'm wondering does anyone have any ideas as it is making me very unproductive. I have tried making the whole rack into a block but that didn't help either.

Thanks

@billy.condon3US9W ,

Can you post a screen snip image of what your model looks like by chance? That might help us understand with a bit more context.

Also, try turning OFF your OSNAPs when you do these things and see if that helps a bit.

Best,

~DD

AutoCAD has no "ignore this intense level of details in my models" option really, so I'm not sure what your statement is truly based on. Sorry.

DWG file size?

PC specs?

More info about your content (sharing your DWG would be most informative)?

And/or FBX source files.

Other things to try:

FREEZE (not off) unnecessary layers for your current tasks (like dimensioning).

Judicious OSNAP choices (vs having every possible one running).

When I convtosurface, there is a total of 4000+ surfaces in the model. Could this be the issue?

That would be a major contributing factor, yes.
