Etransmit freezes when xref unloaded

I have a drawing with about 20 exrefs that freezes during etransmit if any xref are unloaded.

If i reload all the xrefs, the etransmit dialog opens in about 1 second.

If i unload a single xrefs, then the etransmit freezes again.

Well it doesn't exactly freeze.

The Command line says 'Updating Fields...' and goes through a list of 'Loading MEP Base'

At the same time the progress bar goes into an endless flickering cycle of 'Synchronizing References', 'Reading triangles from file...', and 'Upgrading old drawing'. And eventually i have to End Task AutoCAD.

This is happening on this project only, across several people's computers, across many different files. They are all using the same xrefs. All the xref have been Audited, Purged, and even Scale lists cleaned up.

Same issue, all xrefs loaded, no problem. Unload any xref and etransmit doesn't work.

Any help is super appreciated. Thank you.

I'm using Civil 3D 2023 3.1 on Windows 11

Q: are you just trying to 'exclude' all XREFs from being bundled with your top file when you use ETRANSMIT command? Just trying to understand your "unload xrefs" first step.

TIA

Thanks for the quick reply.

Some xrefs will be bundled into the ertransmit but not all. We keep them unloaded in the file to reload for our reference as needed when designing.

This workflow is the same across a couple hundreds project, but this is the only project with this issue.

If I may ask, is this unchecked?

If it is... how is this one project different from all the others? Something minor or significant is, not sure we can help remotely here but many folks will share ideas as they stumble in here.

I see a few similar posts in a Google Search, many seem to suggest fixing the individual files as a cure like this one

No that option is not checked.

You're correct, there is something different about this project, otherwise this issue wouldn't exist. This project is very large. It has about 140 xrefs, and 100 data shortcuts across several shortcut folders. A lot of files are referencing each other.

Thank you for that link. We have audited and purged the files, but we will do it again in case it helps.

A new piece of info:

Unloading consultant backgrounds does not cause this issue. Only unloading files that have been created and managed by our company causes this hang up. The only difference between ours and consultant files is the template they start from, and our files are Associated with Civil 3D projects. I'm not sure what other differences they have.

Could be a Civil 3D issue. If you have access to plain AutoCAD that would be worth a try.

Also if possible to just detach all the xrefs you want unloaded and try eTransmit after that.

That could be something worth asking in the dedicated C3D forum while you wait here for more ideas: plain AutoCAD's DWG files are not live-linked to to project templates in any way. Here is the link

You mean "All" of your "about 140 xref" have been Audited, Purged, and -Purged [RegApp]?
