Error When Inserting Block - Invalid Block Name

Hi,

Just came across an error when inserting a block in AutoCAD 2020, and wondering if anyone else is experiencing this with the new version.

The blocks we are trying to insert are simple stamps such as "Issued for Construction" stamp which is made up of text and a polyline border. With the new 2020 Block insertion interface, I browse for the block (located on our server), then when I try to drag it into the drawing I receive "Invalid Block Name" error. The block name is just simple characters, eg "STAMP-CONSTRUCTION-3.dwg".

If I go back to AutoCAD 2019 or earlier versions, the block inserts with no error. I have even tried the CLASSICINSERT command in 2020, however I receive the same invalid block name error message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

can you please upload the dwg-file "STAMP-CONSTRUCTION-3.dwg"?

So the problem also exists if you actually use CLASSICINSERT command in 2020? or ADCENTER command?
Or is the problem only when you use the new tool?

Hi Alfred,

Here is the drawing file we are having problems inserting in AutoCAD 2020. The issue happens with all of our stamp drawings, not just the one I attached.

These stamp files have been used for years in our office, now only a problem with 2020 version.

Cheers.

Hi Alfred,

The problem appears to be drawing-specific. The blocks insert fine in some drawings, whilst other drawings give the 'invalid block name' error message.

I have attached a test drawing (just a rectangle), which has the problem when inserting blocks in AutoCAD 2020.

Can you please review the settings for the test drawing and advise if there is a setting causing the error?

Thanks.

Confirmed, it inserts fine in 2019, but in 2020 it fails. I've looked through it, I can't find anything that shows it not working

**EDIT - I opened the file, and exported the elements as another block and it works fine now**

Not sure if they changed anything in 2020 for blocks? They must have

Hi Tomislav,

Success! I exported our 25 stamps to new blocks (kept the same names for each) and they now insert without error, both in the new block insert and the classic block insert in AutoCAD 2020.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hi,

I can commit: even without the new block-insert interface, a simple drag & drop your file from Windows explorer into an active drawing (which at least is the same as inserting the dwg-file) fails too (AutoCAD hangs then).

I would suggest to create a support request at Autodesk and send them the file + a link to this thread here.
