Error import STL Files

I have been trying to import STL files into AutoCAD 2020. Every time i try i get an error saying that only V7 and V8 DGN files are supported. That seems a strange message considering i am trying to import an STL. I have tried using fusion 360 to export to a few other file types but still the same error. Just spent the last 45 minutes trying to google the solution but have yet to find it.

Are you sure Autocad can import .STL?

Hi,

as the message said ... you have to make sure that your STL file is is version V7 or V8 . also make sure that you have a trusted and usable file .

The STL format is not an option in the formats listed under the IMPORT command.  I'm not aware of a OOTB method to import them.

I did try to import as a SAT, OBJ, and IGES but got the same error message every time.

Use the correct Command to import and because plain Autocad can't import everything.

You need different Autocad (Vertical products)

You need to use INVENTOR or these other offerings https://all3dp.com/2/stl-to-dwg-how-to-convert-stl-files-to-dwg-autocad/

OK so i found an online converter to turn the STL into a DXF file. This was able to open in autocad. I then used the CONVTOSURFACE command followed by the CONVTOSOLID command to turn it into a regular 3d solid model. And of course when i was done editing i set FACETRES to 10 and then used the STLOUT command to turn it back into and STL.
