Electronic Hand markups

Hi,

Does Autodesk have some software that will allow an engineer to hand/sketch a design on an electronic background or drawing and then we can bring into AutoCAD? I think autocad mobile is sort of close!?

i.e. at the present the engineers do old fashions hand markups on paper and then CAD technicians draw this up. I'm after the engineer to sketch their design straight onto a tablet/laptop electronically then it gets transferred to CAD for an accurate drawing.

and you want this accuracy to be automatic?

Basically, you want someone to do the drafting with all the information in some sort of sketch format that can be converted to an AutoCAD drawing?

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Hiya Rob,

No not the conversion, just the electronic hand sketching. Sort of like if they had a tablet with a pen they could hand sketch electronically onto an architectural background and note up just as if it was a paper print but its done on a Laptop/tablet instead. So they can open up a dwg drawing and sketch over the top

Yeah, we've got quite a few people like that.  They've always used highlighters and colored pencils, and trying to break them away from that is difficult, and it's easy to see why.  Hand markups for all their failings (mystery markups without initials or dates, unintelligible scribbles, multiple cross outs/STET/ignore markups, etc) are very fast and convenient to do.

I'm looking at something like a Bamboo tablet device which would allow for pen input.  Still need to check if our markup tools will work freehand, and whether the device will function well enough.

If you want an Autodesk solution, and for free, look into having your technicians export to DWF files and your markup folks using Autodesk DesignReview.

For a not-free solution, purchase licenses of AutoCADLT for your markup team, and train them to use the program.

AutoCADMOBILE is another, but that could be a bit messy since you rely on one or more users to upload/download files to a webserver first tot eh app to open the file. Same problem you will have with all other mobile apps, aka duplicate files floating around.

Thanks for that info......Not an easy one to sort out as a lot of engineers still want to do old school a£ hand markups and im just trying to find a way of speeding this process up!
