Editing Path on Reference Manager

Editing Path on Reference Manager

I am working with past AutoCAD files that have been moved around. Their folder structure has changed significantly. This has caused many of the xref files to appear as "Not Found" in the Reference Manager. In hopes of resolving these missing links, is their anyway to edit the path of the missing file to a parent folder and have the reference manager look through an entire folder structure to find the missing file? Thanks for the help.

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I know how frustrating this can be. There is a stand alone utility that installed with your AutoCAD called the Reference Manager that should allows you to correct the file paths.

Go to your Windows Start button>AutoCAD 20xx>Reference Manager

Reference manager is a great tool and fast. Plus, your external references will show up in the same locations you previously had them set at.

I feel your pain and it makes me wonder why people refuse to use relative xrefs............frustrating.

I am already using the Reference Manager Program. I was hoping that there was a way to edit the path of a missing xref to a project folder and have the reference manager look through the entire folder structure for the missing xref. However, it seems as though the path must be saved to the exact folder the xref is in.

Hi @Anonymous,

Yes, I understand now what you are looking for but the Reference Manager does not have a search function. It is merely designed to allow adjustments of the saved Xref path and it verifies that it can resolve that location. This saves many users from having to open numerous drawing files to change xref paths.

It does list items that are  not found and allows you to Find and Replace paths but it is not automatic but more of a manual process.
