EATTEDIT not opening at selected attribute

EATTEDIT not opening at selected attribute

Double click on my setup (AutoCAD2017) will open EATTEDIT and, mostly, open ready to edit the selected (double clicked) line of text.

I have some drawing files where double clicking an attribute will open EATTEDIT but the first line attribute is the default selection (instead of the double click attribute). I've tried copying the block to a clean drawing and when i double click the attribute - EATTEDIT opens on that line.

Is there a variable or setting that modifies this behaviour within the drawing file?

How can i set it to always open at the selected attribute?

thanks in advance

The only thing I know (without being able to check your file):
You're using the very bad way to use multiple attributes with the same name
AutoCAD looks for attributes with this name at the blockreference and updates the FIRST hit.

Name-Value
"Attr1" - ValueA
"Attr2" - ValueB
"Attr2" - ValueC

If you double click on "ValueC" you want to get preselct Attr2 with the Value "ValueB"

Do not use multiple attributes with the same name inside one block!
But without your DWG we can only guess.

Upload a file with ONE blockreference and we will see.

Thanks but the attributes each have unique names. In some files I double click the attribute and the enhanced attribute editor opens at the first line (regardless of which attribute I clicked). I can copy that same block to another drawing and double clicking, say, the third attribute will open the editor and the third attribute will be active for editing. Both original and new drawing session are in the same autocad running the same menus.

Thanks but the same menus are used in both open drawing sessions.
Eattedit works fine it’s just that the active line for editing isn’t necessarily the same as the clicked attribute in one drawing... but is tithe same in another (even using same (copied) block.

Thanks but I think I’ve worked out the problem (while trying to emulate problem for upload).
The attribute text I’m trying to edit is written over a solid filled background. If I freeze the background and then double click the attribute for editing I get the eattedit window with the clicked text active for editing.
My guess is that not freezing the fill means I’m actually double clicking the block (not the attribute). Double clicking the block the opens eattedit at the first line.
Problem solved - thanks!
