How to set the default drawing to Bylayer?

Even though I drew and set the color of a line to Bylayer, if I change the current layer to another one and draw a line, they color of the line goes blue. Any ideas? Thanks

what is your current color set to?

CECOLOR should be set to "BYLAYER"

Are you working from a layout and into a viewport?  Perhaps the VP Color is over riding the layer color.  While in that viewport open the layer manager and have a look.

If you don't have anything selected what does the properties palette say? Is it that blue color and not bylayer? If it does then change that to bylayer when nothing is selected. If the palette is set to a color when nothing is selected that color will override whatever your layer is when you draw a polyline.

Can you record a screencast, and supply some screenshots.  It is very odd what you are describing.  Perhaps posting a drawing might help as well.  Do you have any customization running that could be changing the property?

What release of AutoCAD are you using?  There was a bug years ago like this.  Do you have all updates and service packs, etc for the release you are using?

Unfortunately, your description leaves a lot of room for guesswork, so please test the following and tell the result:

- Each objecttype or only lines? what is with circles?

Every time the same: Clean test enviroment:

1. Restart Acad,

2. command: Open, right of [Open]-Button, choose 'without template, british' from that small arrow menu

   Thats a clean drawing file to make sure that we dont have a issue with your existing drawing or templates.

Your current space is the MODELspace, not a Layout.

If you need more than Layer0 for testing, create new Layers with command LAYER

Use only the commandline, and use command  .LINE to create lines (with that point in front of the word line),

no buttons from toolbar, toolpalette or other things.

Can you replicate the problem in this situation?

I am knowing that behavior only together with a memory problem, that's why you should re-start,

this knowing memory problem never appears in a fresh acad session with few elements inside the file.
