DXF File unable to open in AutoCAD

I converted some .dwg files to .dxf in AutoCAD, but when I go to reopen the dxf files, nothing happens. On the command line it says "invalid or incomplete dxf input - drawing being discarded". I am currently using the 2018 version of AutoCAD. Any help on how to solve this issue as soon as possible would be greatly appreciated.

How are you "opening" the .dxf?

Have you used the DXFIN command?

Hi,

>> On the command line it says "invalid or incomplete

>> dxf input - drawing being discarded"

Not exactly, because it tells you a line-number where it fails, with a good editor like Notepad++ you might look into the file, if you know the DXF-syntax you might repair that.

>> I converted some .dwg files to .dxf in AutoCAD

Do you really have plain AutoCAD? Not a vertical and also not a 3rd party plugin/app? And the drawing also does not contain any proxies? Do you now use the same version of AutoCAD to open the file that you used to create the DXF-file? (please start command _ABOUT and show us a screenshot of that dialog).

>> Any help on how to solve this issue

Well, the most important question is ... why do you save as DXF from AutoCAD when you again want to open the file with AutoCAD, why not using the DWG-format that is much more safe?

>> as soon as possible

Please answer the above questions and upload the file (as ZIP) so we can try to find the defect lines and get out as much as possible.

Your DWG file contains corrupt data, by export to dxf acad didn't fix it, but

by re-reading this DXF file you geht trouble..

So far: This is a possible (known) issue, but without the (dwg) file we can not test it for you.

How to solve, hopefully it works:

Copy the DWG as Backup,

Open your DWG by Command RECOVER first,

Error detected? Check Textscreen [F2]

Run Command run a AUDIT _yes

If you like, run -PURGE REG and PURGE ALL

Save the file (as DWG / QSAVE)

Create the DXF as you did it before(how?)

Test to open the new created DXF.

I am simply just using the open command and opening the drawing from my files.

I tried the DXFIN command you suggested, but it still did not open the file and gave me the same text on the command line.

We would like to bet for a little attention, the answer and maybe the solution is in post#4

But without the DWG, we can not continue to support you, just give this tip. I'm looking forward to your feedback.

There was no indication of which number line failed for the file. I attached a screenshot showing that it only says invalid or incomplete.

As far as I know, this is plain AutoCAD 2018, which was provided to me by the company I work at. I both created the dxf file and opened the file through this version of AutoCAD. I am not sure exactly what to screenshot when I input the _ABOUT command but I attached a screenshot showing the first few lines.

I created the dxf file with the intention of using it for one of my company's machines to plot the layout of the drawing. I wanted to make sure that I was able to reopen the file in the event that I had to make any changes to the drawing.

I realize there is an "Accepted Solution" already in place, but I have an additional tip that I discovered recently that may also help.

My coworker downloaded a DXF file from a manufacturer's website, and neither he or I could open or import the DXF in AutoCAD/Civil 3D 2019.

On a hunch, I decided to see if I could Open/Import the DXF from AutoCAD/Civil 3D 2017, and it worked like a charm.

as Alfred said

as I said

case closed.

When tried to open the DXF (yours)

Pro Tip: Use the commandline[CTRL+9] DOCKED!! and with minimum 3 Lines visible, better are 4 lines to see the most of acads feedback.

(there are so many problems inside the dwg, it's to much to exlain in minutes)

Run Command run a AUDIT _yes

If you like, run -PURGE REG and PURGE ALL

Save the file (as DWG / QSAVE)

Create the DXF as you did it before(how?)

Test to open the new created DXF.

Voila, as i wrote.

What a nightmare1

The detected error in this (in parts 20years old!?) file.

What a nightmare2

Yes, Version older than Version2018 are less sensitive to broken data, and non-autodesk software is much less sensitive.
