DWG to PDF capture font or convert text to geometry

Hi guys,

Not sure if anyone is having this issue.

We have recently upgraded from AutoCAD 2014 to AutoCAD 2016 and are now experiencing problems with fonts in pdfs.

So, in 2014 when we captured all fonts as geometry (dwg to pdf), no fonts were embedded in the pdfs and this viewed correctly in our web based drawing system.

However, in 2016, when we convert all text to geometry, pdf properties still show that fonts are embedded. My understanding is that when you convert all text to geometry no fonts should be present. This is causing major issues in our web based drawing system.

Has anyone else had similar issues?

In 2016 SP1, a new variable EPDFSHX was introduced, setting 1 it creates comments as text objects, setting it to 0 leaves shx fonts as geometric objects.  Is this what you are experiencing?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply.

We had issues with the shx fonts creating 'comments' in the pdfs, we overcame this issue by ensuring that all fonts were Arial.

However, another issue has now become apparent, the pdf is showing that Arial MT fonts have been captured. This Arial MT font doesn't seem to exist anywhere and this is what is causing issues in our web based viewer.

In our drawing system, pdfs are viewed in webcentre, ie not as an adobe pdf. This webviewer rasterizes the pdfs and throws up dynamic marks.

My understanding is that if I check convert text to geometry in the dwg to pdf settings, no embedded fonts should be present in the pdf as all the text will have been converted to geometry.

This option worked without issue in 2014, yet in 2016 the geometry options still seems to be embedding fonts!

would it be possible for you to post a drawing and a pdf?
