AutoCAD 2015 - up to date.  Trying to xref from a server and we get "*.dwg file is not found in the current location."

Work has stopped.  Why does this occur? The file is there.  We cant xref it to the drawing.

Did you try to disable the antivirus. An update on AV could cause this kind of problem.

How does an overlay effect the ability to find the file to xref?

I've worked in top 10 AE firms in the country.  All of them OVERLAY, NO PATH.  Never an issue in our international coordination efforts or in country coordination.  I was a CAD Coordinator for these firms.

All backgrounds are in the same directory as the sheet files.  This is to prevent cross file contamination from project to project.

Each sheet has xrefs for the title block & seal in PS, ALL backgrounds are xref's in MS.  Sometimes these xrefs are renamed if multiple plan enlargements are used on the sheet.

Leave the passive agressive out of the response.  Please and Thank-you.  I'd like to know for future use and modification of our CAD standards.

I'll bypass the MAC server and install a "windows box" backed-up to the server.

Now back to working on multiple projects with no xref support that have dealines.

I can't answer your question since it's the same one I am asking: glad you found a fix for your MAC server.

We use OVerlays all the time here, and they are pathed: whether we pick NO PATH from the pop-p or not, AutoCAD still keeps track of them. So we must be talking about two separate items altogether.

It's not a fix.  Its a work around.

Submitting a duplicate support case for the one that was already auto-created from this forum thread really is unnecessary. I did mention this earlier in the thread, but the process that takes place when you have subscription support and post on our forums is: If no one replies back within 24 hours (some forums are even quicker than this) a support case is automatically generated, or if you get replies to your post but no one clicks "Accept as Solution" within 72 hours, a support case is automatically generated. If you see an Autodesk person posting in a thread, there is a good chance that he/she got there because of an auto-generated support case.

Barbara, has anything changed in your environment? We determined that is was your Mac Server that was the issue, and that that is an unsupported environment. Did you get a Windows server setup already?

Hi,

I got the same problem. Could you tell me way to rename the file? Whatever name I tried on the server, it just does not work.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem like you, but I found one solution.

I put all of the XREF file one the deskop. then I xref them in the work DWG file, it works, then save.

The next step is cut all of the XREF files in the server, it is important to put them in the same file with the work DWG, then it works.

If you put the mouse on the XREF panel, you will see, 'found in sever', save path is still' Deskop' .

Looks strange, but other machines can read it on server.

I came across with the same problem (after 3 years from this post). I tried everything possible with no results. The solution: I created a new blank drawing, copied and past everything from the drawing to be xref'd. Superseded the original/saved the new one with the same name, same location. Tried again and problem solved.
