DV -> Twist by object?

North is up. My road is diagonal. I'd like to be able to work along in modelspace, "seeing" my road as horizontal.

I know I can get there with a UCS, but I know that affects more than just the way I "see" the drawing.

SNAPANG changes my cursor to follow the angle, but it doesn't change the angle of what I see. DV -> TWIST will change the view, but I have to know the angle; I'd prefer something I could use on the fly to align with any object. Is there a version of DV -> TWIST that works with an object, or is there an extra Lisp out there to accomplish that?

NOTE:

I am not talking about viewports in paperspace.

Thank you

UCS is what you need: then save it with a name, there is a ucsman pulldown to them go on the fly between all of your views all day long.

Any "lisp" will only use that anyway, lisp doesn't create core commands, but it might help recall saved named ucs locations more easily than the pulldown if you like to type a lot.

Doesn't UCS actually change the coordinates of the drawing?

Some people here have told me not to use that because they said it messes up the drawing. Of course, those same people couldn't tell me what to use instead...

You should learn to value pspace viewports more.

Procedure: Add a working layout that won't be printed.  A default viewport is created automatically.  Then just rotated the viewport by using the reference angle of two points picked with object snaps on the arbitrary line direction. Enter 0 as the new angle.

Anytime you want to work full screen in that view as if you were in model space, just vpmax by double clicking the viewport boundary. If you want to work normally, switch to the model tab.

Check out this screencast.  I still prefer Dean's suggestion.

While that seems a long way to go around to get a rotated view of my modelspace, it definitely works!

Thank you - I would NEVER have thought of that.

I created a LSP routine to twist the view simply by picking two points along the angle you want parallel to your screen/Viewport
