Hi,

My dropdown menues expand to the left instead of the right and I can't find the options/settings to change this.  Does anybody know where this is located?

Thanks,

Max

There may not be a fix: post a screenshot for everyone to see what you mean.

I have that very same issue, exactly like the .png file. Really, no fix?! It was right one day then suddenly its all left. There has to be a reason.

1. the png shows a custom menu add: is that your issue too, your custom menu additions pull to the left? No custom menu adds here and it's not pulling to the left in R2016 or R2017.
2. You wrote: "it was right one day then suddenly its all left." So what changed on the PC or the AutoCAD setup from one day to the next? Dig and find out. That will probably point to the reason.

Hi @Anonymous,

Since it appears to be happening with your custom menus, can you tell me if the dropdowns are contained in a partial menu? If so, I would unload the partial and then reload it to see if that makes it behave properly.

Hello Autodesk Help,

Allow me to clarify. Context (right carrot) pull down menus right of center of screen now open to the left as opposed to how they've opened for years which is to the right (unless at the edge of the physical screen).

This change happened without an event of any kind, just a normal, voluntary system restart.

It seems as though Acad is sensing a smaller screen or something similar because right carrot pull down menus at the far left of the screen still open to the right.

Another issue I'm dealing with is Acad 2017 will not remember my screen setup. Every time a launch a session, the Ribbon, layer, xref and properties toolbars vanish.
I've read every article I can find to resolve this problem to no avail. I'm not going to rebuild my entire setup to fix this problem so I suppose that means I just live with it.
Not horrible but it doesn't speak very well of this version of your product IMHO.

Thank you.

Hi @TonyRB,

I tried the menu thing in 2014 and compared it to 2017.  There is a slight difference on my computer between versions. It does swap to the left a little earlier in 2017 than in 2014 but it doesn't appear to me to be a major difference. I apologize if you don't like the difference. I am not sure why it has changed.

As far as your Ribbon on open not remaining, I suggest that you get everything set the way you like and then saving the workspace. Perhaps that will correct this issue for you.

I've tried much more than workspace but nothing helps. Yesterday I clicked on a workspace that I created upon first launch of Acad2017 and voila! there was all my stuff. Later after a system restart, couldn't get anything back.

I know your first response may be to unload reload, but that's not realistic.

Either you did not manually save your workspace after making the changes with WSSAVE command, and it got dropped on a restart, or you started AutoCAD with an old startup that called an external ARG file and it removed it for you.

When you add/drop menus and customizations, take a few moments, manually save workspaces and actively export your AutoCAD custom profile after creating it, and then, for backup, use the EXPORT AUTOCAD SETTINGS external program to save and restore if needed.

Do you have any other quirks in WIndows after a system restart?

Hi @TonyRB,

Have you gone through the extra steps that @pendean suggested in his last post?

Hello Pendean, and thank you for your support!

My company meticulously maintains each and every computer it owns and this of course includes mine.

My system and the network it's part of are remarkably stable. As an expert level user I monitor and make adjustments
that are recommended to improve performance and I can say with complete confidence that my system is running optimally.

Having said this, in response to the several support team questions regarding various actions I should take to correct the issues I'm
experiencing, I have performed every step, short of a complete reinstall, with no change.

To recap, here are my earlier comments:

Allow me to clarify. Context (right carrot) pull down menus right of center of screen now open to the left as opposed
to how they've opened for years which is to the right (unless at the edge of the physical screen).
This change happened without an event of any kind, just a normal, voluntary system restart.
It seems as though Acad is sensing a smaller screen or something similar because right carrot pull down menus at the
far left of the screen still open to the right.
Another issue I'm dealing with is Acad 2017 will not remember my screen setup. Every time a launch a session, the Ribbon,
layer, xref and properties toolbars vanish. I've read every article I can find to resolve this problem to no avail. I'm not going to

Not horrible but it doesn't speak very well of this version of your product IMHO.

I have attached a screen shot of the menu issue. The screen setup you see is rebuilt every new session,
that is, ribbon and all the toolbars are manually called up. Also, as you can see, my comment regarding pull-down
menu direction was inaccurate :).

Please keep in mind that prior to upgrading Acad 2014 to 2017, all was perfect, as perfect can be in
an imperfect world.

Thank you, your assistance and guidance is much appreciated.

Does it do so on ALL pull-downs or only a few/one??

Flipping the action to the left usually only occurs when the pull-down carrot is near the right edge of the AutoCAD window and the width of the child pull-down is wider than the space available (plus some unknown buffer distance)

File, Edit, View, Insert and Format pull down carrots all go right, the remaining pull-down carrots go left.

Thank you.

That sounds like a monitor resolution confusion because those pull-downs to the right are expanding left.  It sounds like the application believes the edge of the right side of the monitor is too close.  Did you update a graphics controller recently??

Solution for the handing problem:

This issue is a Windows 10 handing setting, so it has nothing to do with Autocad 2017. I have no Idea what could have caused this, but now that doesn't matter.

Thanks for your help. Still have the screen setting issues

The pull-down issue was a Windows 10 issue, a mouse handing setting, and that’s been taken care of, thank you for the assistance.

However, maybe you or someone on the team can help me with the last troublesome issue I’m still having. This issue has become very

frustrating for me because none of the prescribed methods to fix this work.

On every relaunch of AutoCAD 2017 the ribbon, xref, layer and properties toolbars that are my workspace disappear.

I’ve tried changing to a new workspace, re-saving the workspace, creating a new workspace, but none of these efforts

result in my workspace settings present at relaunch.

Another oddity is that once a new workspace was created, none of those saved settings were present at relaunch, but when I picked an

earlier workspace, that one will load my settings, but at relaunch the settings are gone again and none of the previous saved settings work.

I’ve never ever had this problem before on any previous version of AutoCAD and I so much want to make this problem go away.

Please help, please. Thank you.

Is your autocad2017 startup calling an external ARG profile at launch? It would appear to be true, unless you have a messed up WIndows Registry.

Here is the startup:

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2017\acad.exe" /product ACAD /language "en-US"

No profile that I can see.

Your statement that my registry has problems I find disturbing. How about if I say the problem lies with your application...not very helpful right?

Hi @TonyRB,

If I might suggest, can you create a new user with local admin permissions on your workstation? Please then logon with the new account and try to create and save a Workspace.  Does it get retained properly?
