Drawing line to non-parallel line

I couldn't come up with  good title but this what I'm looking to do.

Let's say we are drawing 3 lines to resemble a capital letter A.

I've got the two sides drawn and want to draw the horizontal line from a "nearest" point of one side to what would be the intersection of the line I am drawing and the other side.

In real life we would use this to draw roof joists between hips and valleys.

I seem to recall being able to start drawing a line and getting a dashed tracking kind of line that would snap to the intersection ahead of where you're going.

Thanks!

Randy

Hi,

>> recall being able to start drawing a line and getting a dashed tracking kind of line

Correct :cara_guiñando_un_ojo:

First make sure you have object snap active: ENDpoint as well as INTersection point as well as Extension.

Then turn on object snap tracking <F11>

You now can start a line, then pick the starpoint, now move the cursor to the lower endpoint of your destination line until you see the green object snap marker, now move the cursor upwards along the line (you'll see the green dashed otrack line) and move pick now a point when the horizontal line is really horizontal.

(hope this description helps ...)

since you start with "nearest" point you won't get osnap tracking , you have to start from any osnap mode except "nearest" .

Edit :

you may get it by activating some osnap modes ( Endpoints and Extension ) and Ortho [ F8 ] off/on as shown below :

Thanks! I knew it could be done but just couldn't recall how. From what I can tell there is no problem with starting from "nearest" as well.

Thanks again,

Randy
