Drag and drop from explorer

Drag and drop from explorer

Hi there,

I have recently opened two files in AutoCAD 2016 by dragging and dropping them from the file explorer. Is it possible for the two files to accidentally merge together or for one to override the other while doing this process? Because when I opened one of the files again later there were combined layers from both files that were dragged and dropped.

Hi,

it depends where you drag them to.

  • If you drag a file into the graphic area then it's like a command _INSERT
  • if you drag a file over the menu area or over the command-line then it's working like _OPEN

Yes, this is possible.

It depends on how you drag, and where you drop.

If you left-click drag+drop onto the command line -or- the Title Bar, then the drawing is opened. (Dropping into the menu area is not possible, or results in nothing as illustrated in the screencast).

If you left-click drag+drop onto the drawing area, then it inserts that drawing into the current one.

If you right-click drag+drop, then you will get a menu of choices.

See attached screencast.

Hi,

ok, to be more exact with that sentence:

>> drag a file over the menu area

This does not mean ribbon, it's the (old style) pull-down menu or the area for toolbars.

@rkmcswain ... thx for pointing that out in your video!
