Display issue of white hatch in model space

I read in another post that one way to achieve white hatch when plotting is to use color 255 and set its screening value as 0. This method works fine in final plot/print-out. However, in model space, it is displayed in white color, which is the same as usual black objects. In the case where there are black objects, e.g. texts, above the white hatch, it becomes very difficult to tell the contents since both of them are perfectly white (unless they are selected and one can judge from the highlight dashed lines).

So is there a way to make a specific color transparent only in model space (in this case, color 255)? Or is there a better way to achieve the same white hatch in layout without sacrificing the discernibility in the model space? Thanks.

p.s. Would wipeout, which I'm not very familiar with, be a solution here?

Welcome to the Forums

You can't do it a such but here is a workaround

Make a layer and call it WIPEOUT LAYER.

Give it a colour maybe pink and put your hatch on that layer.

Now go into paperspace and make a viewport. Enter that viewport and change the viewport color to true colour 255,255,255

No when you go into modelspace you will see your text. When you go into paperspace you will not see it, BUT it will print correctly

See the attached drawing.

Thank you very much for the workaround. Now I'm thinking about how to apply this to the case where the wipeout area is in a block and from time to time I want to change the color of the wipeout area in print-out from perfect white to normal color, say blue.

Maybe make a layer called wipeout blue, and leave it as blue and then when you need a blue wipeout just go into the block and change the layer of the wipeout/hatch
