Dimensioning problems

1. When i dimension something and then try to do another dimension from the same point to another point, the value is always wrong, mostly a couple of inches.  it seems to be something to do with the association between the original dimension and the point at which it is connected to.  I've had to select another snap point on the object to get a good dimension.  anyone have this problem and a fix?

2. In the past if I'd dimensioned something and then hit enter and enter it would continue the running dimension automatically.  if there a setting to make that happen in 2018?

As for the dimension being off i would look at which smaps you have enabled (possibly a grid snap left on?)

as for the continuous dimensioning there is a specific command to do that sort of dimensioning.
