Dimension Text Rotation does not keep landing angle with text

I use the Aligned Dimension for almost everything. I have a need to place the text as "Move Text, Add Leader". I then move the text and a leader line is attached. The landing is parallel to the dimension. That looks good. But when I change the "Text Rotation" property, the landing goes horizontal to the screen (see picture).

How can I make the landing turn to the same angle as the text?

Thanks.

You can't, try using a leader instead (as shown on the right).

Can you share that snip in a DWG file here please?

Pendean,

I deleted those objects from my drawing after I did the screen capture. So, I created a new drawing.

I am not sure what Valentin-WSP was trying to say. It appears from the explanation that it was using two entities (minimum). Problem with that is keeping up with moving other objects when the dimension is adjusted. Just not the solution I was looking for.

Also, I did a (dumpallproperties ename) to look through the settings and see if there was something I could do programmatically. But nothing jumped out at me.

You could rotate your UCS with the UCS command and Object option to align it with the object you're dimensioning and then create the dimension and change the ucs back to world.

May I ask, why is your DIMSTYLE not set up to create the leaders automatically? Are you manually adding each one in PROPERTIES?

[Not really an answer to your question, but a drafting-standards question:  Why would one ever want the text rotation to be different from either the always-horizontal option or parallel to the dimension line direction?  It seems to me there's a visual correlation when the dimension line and the text [and the leader landing] are at the same angle, but it could be a source of confusion when they're not.  What is the basis for the different text rotation?]

All,

This was an out of the ordinary circumstance where the dimension need to be different than what would normally be used. I used very odd numbers for the rotation in this thread as an example for clarity of what was happening.

User181,

I thought UCS before diving into the depths of other answers. That first try did not work as I thought it would. So, I didn't go any further with it.

Pendean,

It is not set as default because, as Kent1Cooper pointed out, I would normally have my text parallel with the dimension. There was just this instance where I need to turn it to horizontal. And when I rotated the text to be horizontal, the landing went wonky (not parallel to the dimension, not parallel to the dview twist, not parallel to the text rotation and not even horizontal).

Kent1Cooper,

As mentioned above, I wanted the text horizontal, so I gave it the rotation that was required to be horizontal, but the landing went wonky. You mentioned that would be one of the choices. So, how is that done with the leader landing also being horizontal?

Would anyone know if there is a property for the landing in the "dumpallproperties"?

Don't give it the rotation required to be horizontal.  Just set the Text alignment to be horizontal in the Style definition:

And to have a leader when the text is moved:

Then draw an Aligned Dimension, and pick on the text grip, and choose:

with this result:

Horizontal text, horizontal leader landing.
