differing Excel sheets data linked to differing layouts in same drawing not work

Using Mechanical 2016 stripped down to AutoCAD Vanilla

I have an Excel spreadsheet on which I have say 2 different sheets with different names

I have one dwg drawing with say 2 layouts

I datalink one Excel sheet to one of the layouts & then change to the second layout & data link the second Excel sheet to that

I go back to layout 1 & the Excel sheet here has also changed to the second sheet

It seems I cannot have different sheets of the same Excel file linked to different layouts in the same AutoCAD file

I don't recall this happening previously - is there a new setting I missed somewhere?

HI @Anonymous,

Please attach the Excel file and the drawing so I can take a look and verify your results.

I have attached a drawing file with 2 sheets

I have attached the actual Excel spreadsheet I picked the problem up on

On sheet 1 (named 20152050-GA-001) I attached a sheet from the Excel file

On sheet 2 (named 20152050-GA-002) I attached another sheet

Change 1 sheet & the other will change too

Hi @Anonymous,

I took your file and removed the two linked tables and then removed the datalink.

I then created two datalinks: one for each Excel page and named range.

I then inserted two tables - each one linked to it's own datalink.

I can update Excel and the tables respond appropriately.

I am not sure this is how you go through the process but it has always behaved correctly for me when I follow these steps.

Aha - you have hit the nail on the head

What I did was create the first GA then copy that sheet, went to the new sheet & edited the datalink...

What I shoudl be doing is recreating a new datalink for each sheet.

Thanks 🙂
