DGN file import issue

I received DGN files and when I import them images are missing.  According to the person sending me the DGN files, there are external references within the DGN file.  How do I keep the external references from being lost during the import?

Did they send you the images files (and their DGN files if they are in separate DGN files) along with the DGN file you are importing?

You need them too.

Make sure they send you the missing files.

They sent me a ton  of DGN files in a zip folder.  I extracted all the files and saved them on my computer. But I only need 4 of the DGN files to import.  I kept all the files together.  But when I import them, images are missing

They may have full paths that include shares and folders that you do not have.

Usually, AutoCAD reports the "missing" reference files to your text screen.

If the missing files are put in your current drawing folder they should be found regardless of their paths.

The only other alternative I know of is to create the shares and folder structure on your system and extract the files restoring the original folder structure exactly.

Also, if the image names are listed in the CLASSICIMAGE window, either ask them to send you those image files or if you have them make sure they are in the current drawing folder and then reset their path to just be their name.  That should let AutoCAD find them.
