defining table lineweights

In preparation to making the change from color to named plot styles (ctb to stb), tables are one area that introduces some doubt. Given the elements of tables do not have individual property dialogs, it seems the only way of defining lineweights for the borders and text is with color, rather than the other two methods: stb style or layer defined lineweights. It seems possible to draw the borders manually, and even create some of the header text separately, but are there other ways of redefining the plot styles of table elements?

Does anyone stick to ctb plot styles for this reason, and could there be other areas that color plot styles are advantageous?

@jdfnnl why are you changing if I may ask?

And if I may also ask, TABLESTYLE command (even in R2015) has a tab called BORDERS where you can define the lineweight BYBLOCK or BYLAYER, why not use those to assign whatever you want/need whether in CTB or STB? Same in the TEXT tab is you still us old stick fonts (SHX) instead of TTFs).

Same applies to lines and plines and so much more.

It is not clear in tablestyles how to accomplish different plot styles for different elements.

Here is an image of what I am trying to accomplish.

What do those colors mean to you, and how can you explain it to everyone over here in more detail.

AND the screenshot does not quite answer my questions, try again please? Starting with why do you think you need to be using STBs.

well the different colors correspond to the lineweights defined by a ctb plot style.

I am trying to transition to stb plot styles because they are not dependent on colors.

Correct, so color no longer matters in STBs, yet you still wish to employ them?

In TABLESTYLE you color choices for "borders" are BYBLOCK or BYLAYER, and both of those work well with STBs (you either set the block STB style or the layer's STB style).

If you need more control than that, you are going to get into LWEIGHT settings too.

For the TEXT portion of TABLESTYLE, if you still use SHX fonts, you can choose from BYBLOCK or BYLAYER or use different predefined text STYLEs for what look you need for DATA, HEADER and TITLE Cell text styles.

If you use TTF fonts those ignore plot style tables and always plot as they were designed to look, so that's never a concern.

STB is different. You sort of have to also think differently: remember, color means nothing now. You give up some level of absolute control IMHO.

Therefore it is possible to adjust table lineweights using the border dialog .. though I am guessing ctb plot style overrides all these? With stb plot styles designated by layer, would all of a table's borders be overridden by the lineweight as defined by the table's layer?
