Heres what Im looking for.  I need to be able to extract the entire title block from multiple drawings and have it import to an excel file.

I do know that the names in the title block are to be identified by different names.  within the drawing but they cannot be differant from sheet to sheet.

Names of the attribute tags are as follows that I need to be avle to extract.

Project

title-1

title-2

title-3

scale

j_nub

s_nub

size

Not an AutoCAD ability if all the names are all the same.

I feel like I must be missing something?  From what you are asking this seems to be easily doable - but I'm confused with Pendean's answer (as they definetly know what they are doing).

I just did a quick extraction showing what I believe you are asking for - this was out of 4 different files and 2 different locations (2 drawing files in one location, 2 in a completely different one).  I left the Name column turned on just to show that all of these files are using the same block name (the block names could have been different, it doesn't matter).  The other 3 column names are the attributes I'm pulling from those title blocks (which in your case you would just have column names with the attributes that you have listed).

Hello,

We extract titleblock data from our drawings and output it to a spreadsheet all the time.

Our titleblock text is attributes and all the attributes are grouped into a block.

We run the DATAEXTRACTION command (DX for short).

Tell the data extaction command you are searching for "xxx" block in all drawings on the list

and then tell it what attributes you are wanting extracted from the block.

We have a folder on our C: drives called DATAEXTRACT.

We copy all drawings we want to extract into this folder.

In the DATAEXTRACTION command we created a template that looks at all drawings

in our DATAEXTRACT folder for a certain block with certain attributes.

The users can copy their drawings into C:\DATAEXTRACT, run the DATAEXTRACTION

command, select use an existing template and then hit the Next button about 8 times.

They can't get it wrong.

I'd suggest you read the Help files under the search DATAEXTRACTION.

Good Luck,

Steve

Found out the hard way that the Data Extraction from "files" will not work on network share drives sometime and not on long path names.

I got this to work by copying the files to extract to a location on the "C:" drive and everything works as advertised.

Also I found the host dwg file needs to be saved (ie. no asterisk in front of the filename) in order for the extraction to really include everything.
